Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive method of treating spine fractures, caused by osteoporosis or cancer, which was developed for fast elimination of back pain and to help prevent ongoing weakening of the spine. By stabilizing the fracture, vertebroplasty removes the pain and restores quality of life. After local anesthetics is administered a small tube is introduced through the incision on the back which is guided with the help of X-ray images to the fracture on the surface of damaged vertebra..

Then one or two needles are inserted in the collapsed vertebra to collect diseased bone tissue which will be later studied (biopsy). Weakened part of the vertebra is filled with bone cement which stabilizes the fracture. Then the tube is removed. Sometimes it is needed to inject cement on both sides of the vertebra. At the end of the procedure an external corset is placed as a mean of vertebra body stabilization, which provides fast mobility and eliminates pain.

It is obligatory to inform your physician about pregnancy or the use of ‘blood thinning’ medications.
